Floral Kaleidoscope Afghan Square Free Crochet Pattern
Welcome Blog Hop Crochet Along-ers! I’m so excited to be sharing my first square with you today!
And for anyone who hasn’t been following, I’m participating in the Blog Hop Crochet Along with 9 other bloggers and we’re giving you a new afghan square pattern every day this month! You can read the full details about it in my previous post here, and find links to the other squares at the bottom of this post.
● Size G (4.5 mm) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.
● Yarn needle for finishing.
● Worsted Weight Yarn in 4 colors
Yarn used in example: Lion Brand Wool-ease in Natural Heather (CA), Dark Rose Heather (CB), Seaspray (CC), Eggplant (CD)
Thank you to Lion Brand for sending me Wool-ease to create these squares with! Admittedly, I’d never tried it before but it really is perfect for afghans!
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
trc – triple/treble crochet
pf – puff stitch
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
rep – repeat
rnd – round
ea – each
sp – space
st – stitch

CA, CB, CC, CD – color A, B, C, D
● Invisible join: video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsHggQGFq3A
● Puff stitch: video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWNovo_3FsA Please note: this tutorial shows how to make the puff stitch used in this pattern however, it does not show the ch 1 after the puff. rnd 1 of this pattern requires you to ch 1 after each puff.
Be sure to check your gauge!
Gauge: 4 dc or trc = 1 inch.
You will definitely need to block the square when finished to get it to lay flat. I have a simple tutorial here: https://www.gleefulthings.com/blog/?p=7929
Finished size: 12 inch square

It’s a gorgeous pattern. I love granny squares. But it would be nice if you would just include a simple printable version that I could print without all those illustrations of every little step. I’m sure those are useful for beginners but not for people who know how to follow patterns. If I print the whole thing, it would be 7 pages.
I am going to make this square the center of a blanket.
Thank you for sharing.

I simply love this design. Do you have an idea of how much yarn would be necessary to make a complete afghan? Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! For the crochet along, we estimated that you’ll need approximately 60oz. of worsted weight yarn.
any chance you can write the puff stitch without having to go to youtube? I can’t always download videos.
thank you! Extremely beautiful, thanks for sharing.
Thank you for posting the free pattern! It is fabulous:) I have included it on my blog Karla’s Making It (linking to your pattern, of course)! You can view it here http://www.karlasmakingit.com/free-crochet-patterns/free-crochet-granny-square-patterns/
Thanks for featuring my pattern! I’m excited to see it among all of those other pretty squares! :)
A lovely pattern to work. Just finished it, thankyou.
